Frequently asked questions about how My LifeJars works...

My LifeJars

What does My LifeJars do?

My LifeJars is where personal information about your life can be organized and stored securely in one place.

My LifeJars is a highly secure online, mobile-responsive platform where all content is encrypted.

Each item of content can be shared with one person, some people or made public; now during your lifetime, or in the future as your legacy.

People can be invited to join your My LifeJars Tribe and the content shared with each person is determined by how you set the Timelock and the Secret Keeper settings for each Memory, Thing or Password.

Guardians can be added and granted permission so they can access what they may need should you lose mental capacity and/or to administer your estate.

Life Profiles of family and friends can be started to help them organize their life and record their life journal.

Online memorials of loved ones can be created and shared from your Remembrance Wall.

How does My LifeJars work?

Templates and prompts guide you organize and store your vital documents, important information, records of valuable or sentimental things, save  passwords and write your life journal.

Life Profiles are viewed on a Life Wall and Legacies (online memorials) are displayed on a Remembrance Wall.

Guardians can be nominated to manage a Life Profile or a Legacy depending on the individual permissions that are granted

How secure is my content?

My LifeJars uses two independent levels of security protection. All content uploaded to My LifeJars is encrypted on transit and during storage so it is safe and secure.

The first level comprises all of the most secure versions of built-in security features that are available in computers, tablets, mobiles, and cloud storage systems.

The second and completely independent level of security – which is unique to My LifeJars – a specially developed encryption engine *patent pending* that uniquely protects each and every item of content before it is stored.

This combination of features provides a fully encrypted solution for the transmission of user content to My Lifejars’ cloud storage facilities for its storage. This encryption is both individualized to users and to the content.

What is the Encryption *Patent Pending* about?

Encryption Engine Guarantee

Even if the most secure publicly available security features of Microsoft & Apple computers, Android & Apple phones, and Amazon cloud services were breached, then a person’s My LifeJars content will still be secure.

This independent security is managed by a system that has no outside connectivity and therefore can’t be connected to by a hostile attacker. It is uniquely encrypted per item and has features such as time unlocking and security rules that mean when it is downloaded or uploaded by a user it only exists in an intermediate transmitted system, or caches, momentarily.

Is my privacy protected?

Decide your overall overriding level of privacy.

When the public setting is selected in your profile, when someone searches for you in My LifeJars, your first & last name, profile image and locality are provided Memories & Things are displayed according to the individual Secret Keeper Settings that you set.

If the private setting is selected, only your first and last name will be displayed when someone searches for you. Profile image and all other identifying details are concealed. This private setting will also conceal any Memories & Things that have the Secret Keeper set to public. Members of a Tribe will still see all your content as you have decided.

How is content  moderated and any Regulatory Requirements met?

My LifeJars uses the latest Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning software to moderate audio (including speech to text), image and video content submitted to My LifeJars. This includes explicit nudity, suggestive sexual situations, visually disturbing, violence, hate symbols, rude gestures, drugs, alcohol & gambling.

The AI software automatically analyses content and suspends content that is suspect and informs the My LifeJars Moderation Team of the reason for rejection. This ensures that My LIfeJars enables content moderation (with reference to the Santa Clara Principles on transparency and accountability) whilst balancing the requirement not to decrypt user content successfully uploaded to the My LifeJars Platform.

In order to meet regulatory requirements, My LifeJars will decrypt any users stored content having been provided with the relevant legal authority of law enforcement agencies in the jurisdiction an alleged offense has occurred.

My LifeJars may decrypt content if there are reasonable grounds to investigate a breach of My LifeJars Terms and Conditions & Privacy Policy.

If a user has any concerns about content moderation or the My LifeJars App being utilized for abusive, obscene, corrupt or illegal behavior, please contact My LifeJars at support@mylifejars.com immediately.

Why should family and friends join My LifeJars?

My LifeJars is a place to organize your life and capture memories securely to access now and in the future.

  1. Personal data often sent via email or other carrier services can be used to cause financial loss or reputational damage.
  2. Social media profiles get hacked and posted content is often lost or has to be deleted.
  3. Content uploaded or shared may not be important or relevant to save for always. Who in the future will want to watch cat videos, fake news and memes inter-mingled with a life story?
  4. People may have trouble locating real-life documents or soft copies of documents on old computers and knowing if they are the latest versions.
  5. Family & friends located across State and International borders may require timely access to important information especially if a person has an accident, serious illness or dies.
  6. Over 60% of us now rely on accessing personal profiles on social media sites as a memorial to someone we have loved.

There are very few apps/platforms that offer an encrypted storage solution that transcends time and with the ability to migrate data. So that a person can access their data now and can leave their legacy for family friends and those yet to be born.

Life Profiles & Legacies

What is a Life Profile?

A Life Profile is made up of memories, things (information and important documents) and passwords.

Each person has their own Life Profile but can also create and attach other Life Profiles to their My LifeJars account.

For instance, a parent may have a Life Profile for each of their children and an aged parent as well as the family pets.

What's the difference between a Life Profile and a Legacy?

A living person has a Life Profile. A Legacy is an online memorial for a person that has died.

A Life Profile can be a transition to a Legacy by a person’s My LifeJars Guardian when a person or pet dies.

It is essential that all My LifeJars users assign at least one Guardian to manage their Life Profile.

Can I create a Life Profile for another person or pet?

A Life Profile can be created for a child, an adult with or without an email account or a pet. These Life Profiles will be attached to your My LifeJars account.

A child under the age of 13 cannot have their own My LifeJars account.

A child under 13 may not have their own My LifeJars Account.

To protect a child’s privacy, only the first & last name of a child is displayed in the My LifeJars search. Profile image and all other identifying details are concealed.

When a child reaches the age of 13 their email can be added and their Life Profile assigned to them, so they can have access to and start adding their own content.

You will be the Guardian of this Life Profile with full access unless the person you created it for changes these permissions.

If an adult does not have an email address or has some physical or mental lack of capacity, you can chose not to create a My LifeJars account for this adult, and you will be the owner of this Life Profile.

In both instances, you are required to acknowledge that only true and accurate information will be provided by you.

How do I look after a Life Profile for another person?

Tribe >> Wards >> Select pen icon on wards tile to switch profile

Guardians edit a Life or Legacy Profile of their ward  by ‘switching profiles’ so they 'act' as if they were the person.

The name and profile image on the Top Menu bar (RHS) shows the active profile that is being edited (either your own profile or one of your Ward’s Life of Legacy Profiles).

Invite family and friends to join your Ward’s Tribe (not your Tribe) so they can read the person or pet's legacy and leave tributes.

Don’t forget you can still decide who can see what information about your Ward by setting the Secret Keeper when uploading or editing content.

It is essential that you only grant permission to a trusted person.

People & Pet Memorials

What is an online memorial?

An online memorial is a place honour & celebrate a person’s life and a place to leave tributes.

An online memorial can bring comfort and connectedness to a person that has died.

What is the difference between an online memorial and a digital legacy?

An online memorial can be part of a person’s digital legacy.

A Digital Legacy is the amount of electronic data that a person leaves behind on data media and on the internet in including social media profiles when they die. It also includes information about the person recorded digitally by others.

Increasingly so, Digital Legacies are curated and people leave instructions on what data to keep and what to delete.

What is a My LifeJars Legacy Profile?

In My LifeJars a Legacy is a combination of an Online Memorial and a Digital Legacy.

It is one place where all information about a person’s life can be gathered and curated in a digital format to be preserved for the future.

A Legacy can be either created after a person has died or if a Life Profile has already been created in My LifeJars, this can be transitioned into a Legacy and more content added.

Where can I find out if a Legacy of someone already exists?

In the My LifeJars Remembrance Wall select the ‘Add a Legacy‘, then type in a person’s name. If a Legacy already exists select the view button. All memories with a public setting will be seen.

The link above the person’s image can be copied and shared with others outside of My LifeJars.

To add this Legacy to your Rememberance wall and view more private memories, send a request to the Guardian(s) and they can accept you into the person’s Tribe. The Legacy will then be added to your Remembrance Wall.

What happens to a Legacy if I don't want to look after it anymore or I die?

It is recommended that each Legacy should have 2 Guardians assigned.

If you resign from being a Guardian or die, there will be one other person to look after the Legacy and assign a second Guardian.

To transfer the ownership of a Legacy go to the Ward’s ‘Legacy’ and select the dropdown in the top RHS corner of the pane, select ‘Transfer Ownership‘  and flow the prompts.
